
A multi-agency police network and the officers from the Directorate of criminal Investigations in Mumias East have 2 individuals accused of defrauding money from residents in western kenya .
They arrested 30-year-old Jonathan Ambwaya Kwini and 23-year-old Timothy Siloche Wesonga, suspected of running a wide M-Pesa fraud operation in the area.
During the intelligence-led operation at Bomani Teachers’ Estate in Mumias town, detectives seized a Safaricom Mobicom phone used for SIM card registration, four Itel phones, 70 Airtel SIM cards, 24 Telkom SIM cards and more than 5,000 Safaricom SIM cards.
The haul also included 142 national ID cards belonging to various individuals, painting a picture of the suspects’ extensive operation.
Both tge two suspects, Jonathan Kwini and Timothy Wesonga have since been escorted, along with the incriminating evidence, to Kakamega Police Station as investigations continue. Once the investigations are done,they will be arraigned in court once the investigations are over.
