Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has dismissed claims of political fallout with Raila Odinga or the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), affirming his loyalty to both.
Speaking during an interview on Ramogi TV, Babu clarified that his criticism has always been directed at President William Ruto’s administration, not at Raila or his party. He described Raila as a respected political father whose leadership he will never oppose.
The youthful legislator emphasized that even if ODM denies him a ticket in future elections, his support for Raila will remain firm. “You cannot fight your own father,” he said, likening their relationship to a family bond.
There has been growing speculation that Babu may seek the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in 2027, with questions raised about ODM’s choice of candidate. Responding, Babu maintained he would never turn against Raila, regardless of the ticket issue.
He further noted that Raila’s recent warning against ODM leaders supporting Ruto validated his earlier concerns about disloyalty within the party. According to Babu, some politicians were too quick to embrace Ruto while ignoring ODM’s future ambitions.
The MP also addressed accusations of betrayal, questioning why he was celebrated when facing arrests and tear gas for ODM, yet criticized when opportunities emerged.
Babu reminded ODM members that unity was essential for the party’s survival and strength. He stressed that as long as he remained in ODM, he would not fight Raila or the movement.
His remarks come as ODM faces internal pressure over succession politics ahead of 2027.
