A police officer shocked many when he dramatically set his uniform on fire before resigning from the force. He said his action was motivated by frustration over poor pay and the lack of career growth after serving for six years.
The rare protest took place outside his local police station, where curious colleagues and members of the public gathered to watch. Witnesses described the officer as visibly emotional but determined.
Before burning the uniform, he addressed the crowd with a short speech criticizing what he called neglect of ordinary officers by the system.
“I have given this country six years of service with loyalty and dedication,” he said. “Yet, I remain stuck in the same rank, earning the same salary, while risking my life daily. Enough is enough.”
Eyewitnesses reported that he removed his uniform, poured a flammable substance over it, and set it ablaze, standing silently as the flames consumed it.
The police department later confirmed the officer’s resignation in a brief statement. Officials said an internal review had been launched but declined to go into details.
“We acknowledge the incident involving a former officer. Though we discourage such conduct, every officer has the right to raise grievances. A review will be carried out,” the statement read.
The protest has once again highlighted growing concerns among police officers about low morale, underfunding, and slow promotion.
Analysts warn that unless such issues are addressed, more officers may opt to leave the service, making this act a symbolic call for urgent reforms.
