Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched a strong attack on President William Ruto, accusing him of using political tricks to divide the Mount Kenya region and weaken its united voice.
Speaking during a press conference in Murang’a, Gachagua said the President is working behind the scenes to create division among Mt. Kenya leaders in order to control the region ahead of future elections.
“Na mimi naita viongozi ndio niseme, William Ruto anapanga kugawanya hii jamii yetu wa mlima ndio atukalie. Na nimekataza na sitamkubalia,” Gachagua said.
The former Deputy President claimed that President Ruto is building a network of loyal politicians in Mt. Kenya, whom he referred to as “wheelbarrows”—a reference seen by many as a jab at Ruto’s political party, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), whose symbol is a wheelbarrow.

“Na mimi najua anatengeneza ma wheelbarrow, mingi sana.”
He went on to warn that Ruto’s strategy involves sending these people to create confusion and break the unity of the region’s political voice, especially within the opposition.
“Tunajua amepanga atume watu wake wagawanye united opposition. Hatutakubalia yeye. Kwa sababu tukigawanyika, atatuweza.”
