According to available news sources, residents of Samutet village in Kericho County are in deep shock after a 19-year-old man allegedly hacked three of his relatives to death. The suspect, identified as Evans Kiprop, is said to have attacked his 70-year-old aunt, his 28-year-old sister-in-law, and his 3-year-old niece in a brutal incident that has left the community in grief.
Police commander James Ng’etich confirmed the killings and explained how the attack unfolded. The suspect reportedly ambushed his aunt in her house while she was doing household chores. When the sister-in-law heard the commotion and rushed to find out what was happening, the suspect turned on her and killed her at a nearby cowshed. After that, he returned to the house and attacked the young child, who later died at Kericho County Referral Hospital.
Reports further reveal that the suspect had a troubled past. He had previously been convicted and sent to an approved school due to criminal behavior. The motive behind this violent attack remains unclear, and police say investigations are ongoing to establish the reason for the killings.
The horrifying incident sparked anger among villagers, who are said to have lynched the suspect shortly after the attack. Police later moved the bodies of the three victims to Kericho Referral Hospital mortuary. Officers from Kapsoit Police Station also visited the scene to secure evidence and begin investigations.
The police are expected to carry out several steps as part of the investigation. These include collecting physical evidence from the scene, conducting autopsies to confirm the cause of death, interviewing witnesses, and compiling a full report of the case. Even though the suspect was lynched, officers will still need to document the chain of events and the circumstances surrounding his death.
This tragedy has raised serious questions about mental health, family conflicts, and community safety. Many residents are calling for tighter security and counseling for families affected by violence. The police have assured the public that they are committed to bringing clarity to the case as investigations continue.
