Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula has suggested that his party may not automatically support President William Ruto in the 2027 elections.
Speaking at a recent public event, Wetang’ula emphasized that political alignments are not predetermined and that decisions will be guided by the will of Kenyans.
“Nobody has the monopoly to restrict movement or dictate political choices,” he remarked, highlighting his commitment to democratic principles and individual freedoms.
The veteran politician stressed that Ford Kenya will respect the electorate’s decision when the time comes. “Kenyans will make their choice at the ballot,” Wetang’ula said.
He added that the party will carefully consider alliances and strategies as the 2027 elections approach. “We will cross the bridge on who becomes President when we reach 2027,” he explained.
Political analysts view Wetang’ula’s statements as a measured approach aimed at keeping his options open while avoiding premature commitments.
The comments also come amid growing speculation about potential coalitions and partnerships ahead of the next general elections.
Ford Kenya has maintained a reputation for strategic flexibility, often signaling openness to collaborations based on shared interests and policy priorities.
Wetang’ula’s remarks are expected to spark discussions among political observers and the public, as Kenyans closely watch how key leaders position themselves ahead of the crucial 2027 presidential contest.
