Residents of Kakamega have blamed the high cost of living as one of the main reason why they prefer using Boda-bodas and Hand Carts to ferry the bodies of their loved ones to their resting place.
According to the reports given by one of the residents, using vehicles to transport the body of the deceased is costly because some drivers tend to overcharge the family of the deceased.
They also explained that it is better for the deceased to be laid to rest on time instead of keeping the body of the deceased in the mortuary while waiting to raise enough money to afford a Hearse.
“We use WhatsApp to raise money for the burial of a loved one, the money is spent on their hospital Bill and other things that are going to be used during the burial. One of the reasons why we find it easy to transport the deceased using Boda-bodas and Hand carts is because of the high cost of living in the country. It is very expensive to use vehicles to transport their bodies because the driver will overcharge saying that the prices of fuel are high, so when one dies” Residents.
This, according to the reports given by the residents only happens if the body of the deceased is around.
“We can’t use a Boda-boda to transport the body of the deceased from Nairobi to Kakamega. This only happens if the body of the deceased is preserved in a mortuary which is not far from us” James Mukhwana.
Kenyans who took to social media platforms to speak on this commended the residents for taking this action stating that it is better than keeping the body of the deceased in the mortuary.
