Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has voiced disappointment over recent remarks by former President Uhuru Kenyatta, arguing that the ex-leader continues to comment on national affairs despite leaving the country with significant challenges.
Cherargei criticized Kenyatta’s administration, saying it left a legacy of corruption scandals and a mounting national debt, issues that the current government is still struggling to manage.
The senator, formerly of the Jubilee Party, described it as unfortunate that Kenyatta focuses on criticizing the present leadership while overlooking the problems his government left behind.
He added that Kenyatta’s political style leans more toward rhetoric than offering practical solutions to the country’s ongoing difficulties.
Cherargei also observed that the political scene ahead of the 2027 General Elections appears to be mirroring the 2022 presidential contest.
He suggested that the main challenge the ruling party may face could once again be linked to Kenyatta, either directly or indirectly, reflecting the rivalry that characterized the last elections.
The senator’s comments follow Uhuru Kenyatta’s recent criticisms of President William Ruto’s administration, accusing it of misusing security agencies meant to protect citizens and of failing in healthcare after introducing an untested system.
Cherargei stressed that political debates should prioritize solutions and accountability, rather than dwelling on past mistakes without addressing the country’s current problems.
It remains to be seen how tensions between former and current leadership will unfold as Kenya approaches the 2027 elections, with citizens and political analysts watching closely.
