In a heart-stopping moment that gripped the tight-knit community of Eastleigh, a local WiFi cable technician was rescued by quick-thinking residents after he became trapped on a tall power line post.
The technician, identified as 32-year-old James Mwangi, had been hired by a small internet service provider to install fiber optic cables in a busy residential area near the Eastleigh market.
Armed with his tools and a ladder, Mwangi climbed the 15-meter post around 4 PM to connect new WiFi lines.
What started as a routine task quickly turned into a fight for survival.
As he reached the top, his safety harness snagged on a cluster of thick, weathered cables draped across the pole.
In a panic to free himself, he slipped, and his foot got wedged between two high-voltage lines.
The lines looked like a spider’s web – old power cables mixed with phone lines, all buzzing with electricity.
Touching them could mean instant electrocution, and the risk was amplified by the humid afternoon air, which can make electricity more unpredictable.
Mwangi’s cries for help drew a crowd within minutes.
The rescue operation lasted a tense 25 minutes. Kenya Power technicians arrived just as the group was lowering Mwangi with ropes tied to his harness.
Miraculously, the technician suffered only minor cuts, bruises, and a mild electric shock that left him with temporary numbness in his hands.
