Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has urged former President Uhuru Kenyatta to enjoy his retirement peacefully and avoid what he termed as the politicisation of matters related to security and governance.
Speaking at a public gathering in Uasin Gishu, Sudi said that Uhuru, like other retired leaders, deserves respect but should refrain from undermining the current administration. “I want to tell our former President, please relax and enjoy your retirement. Do not politicise issues of security and governance, because they are sensitive matters that affect every Kenyan,” he stated.
The remarks came after Uhuru recently commented on his government’s record in restructuring security agencies and deepening inter-agency coordination. His reflections were seen by some of Ruto’s allies as a subtle critique of the current administration’s approach. (Nation Africa)
Sudi, a close ally of President William Ruto, insisted that security should not be turned into a political tool. He further argued that the government is fully committed to ensuring national safety while delivering on its development promises. (Standard Media)
Analysts note that tensions between Uhuru and the Kenya Kwanza leadership have persisted since the 2022 transition, particularly over matters of political succession and policy direction. While Uhuru has largely kept a low profile, his occasional remarks often trigger heated reactions from Ruto’s allies. (Business Daily Africa)
Sudi’s comments highlight the ongoing friction between Kenya’s current and former leadership, underscoring the delicate balance between retirement statesmanship and active politics.
