A land row in Nandi County turned violent after two people were shot in Kimwani during clashes over ownership of a disputed farm.
According to police, the violence began when a group of youths invaded the farm, insisting that the land belonged to them. The invasion quickly escalated into chaos as the youths engaged in running battles with security officers called to the scene.
In the process, two men were shot and seriously injured. They were rushed to Nandi Hills Sub-County Hospital, where doctors confirmed that they are in critical but stable condition. Police maintain that their actions were aimed at dispersing the crowd to prevent further destruction and bloodshed.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as tense, with residents fleeing for safety amid gunfire and tear gas. Several properties in the area were reportedly vandalized during the unrest.
The farm at the center of the dispute has a long history of ownership claims, with different families and groups presenting conflicting documents. Locals say the matter has dragged on in court for years without resolution, fueling tension between rival factions.
Area leaders have condemned the violence, urging residents to remain calm and allow the law to take its course. Nandi County Commander has assured that investigations are underway to establish the circumstances that led to the shooting and to identify those behind the invasion.
Authorities have further pledged to tighten security in the area to prevent any possible retaliatory attacks and to ensure that the land dispute is handled legally. Legally, to prevent further violence.
