Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of failing to pay former President Uhuru Kenyatta his retirement benefits as required by law.
Speaking during a public forum, Kioni claimed that despite Uhuru peacefully handing over power in 2022, he has not received his dues as guaranteed by the Constitution and the Presidential Retirement Benefits Act.
He described the situation as unfair and politically motivated, saying the former President deserves respect for his service to the country.
“It is sad that up to today, Uhuru Kenyatta has not been paid his retirement benefits.
He left office with dignity and handed over peacefully, yet this government has denied him what is rightfully his,” Kioni said.
The Jubilee Secretary General vowed that if their side of the political divide takes over government in 2027, they will ensure all former Presidents, including Uhuru, are treated fairly.
He added that the respect of institutions depends on how leaders honor the law, not on personal or political differences.
Kioni further stated that even if President William Ruto is voted out in 2027, and regardless of what people think of his performance, he too should receive his retirement benefits without delay.
“Even if Ruto is voted as the worst president, we will still pay him.
This is not about liking or disliking someone, but about protecting the dignity of the office of the President,” he explained.
Kioni emphasized that failing to pay a former Head of State undermines the principles of democracy and sets a dangerous precedent for the country
