Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has once again dropped a political grenade, this time aimed at Jubilee Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni. In a sarcastic jab, Kalonzo said he was grateful for being left out of the Jubilee National Delegates Conference, a move he described as a blessing in disguise.
In a video shared by Lightcast TV Kenya, Kalonzo openly mocked the Jubilee camp, suggesting that his absence spared him the drama and infighting that has been tearing the once-powerful party apart. His statement drew laughter from supporters, but it also exposed deeper cracks within the opposition alliance.
Kalonzo has been walking a tightrope as Raila Odinga’s partner in the Broad-Based Government deal with President William Ruto. By turning his guns on Kioni, he indirectly revealed the silent rivalries playing out among leaders who were once united against Ruto.
Political observers note that Jubilee’s relevance has been shrinking, with Kioni struggling to keep the party afloat amid defections and financial challenges.
Kalonzo’s sarcastic tone painted the Jubilee NDC as more of a sinking ship than a serious political gathering, further highlighting the growing irrelevance of the outfit in national politics.
Insiders believe Kalonzo’s message was also meant to send a warning shot, that Wiper cannot be taken for granted in coalition matters. His remarks underline his ambition to remain central in succession politics, especially with whispers about 2027 alignments getting louder.
The tension comes as ODM boss Raila Odinga continues to balance his new role as Ruto’s ally with keeping his base intact. Kalonzo’s move could either be seen as loyalty to Raila or as a calculated step to distance himself from factions that might slow down his political momentum.
For now, Kalonzo’s sarcasm has set tongues wagging, leaving Jubilee embarrassed and the opposition once again appearing fragile before the eyes of Kenyans.
