Ryan Malulu, son of the late Malava MP Malulu Injendi, was left devastated after losing the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nomination for the upcoming Malava parliamentary by-election.
In the primaries held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, Kakamega County Minority Leader David Ndakwa secured the ticket with 6,477 votes, while Malulu garnered 3,783 votes.
Malulu, who had been a frontrunner in the race, expressed his disappointment and alleged that the nomination process was marred by irregularities.
He claimed that senior UDA officials interfered with the results, accusing them of rigging the primaries in favor of Ndakwa.
“They stole my votes,” Malulu stated, adding that he had received information about meetings between top party officials and his competitor during the primaries.
Despite his grievances, Malulu accepted the outcome and vowed to continue supporting President William Ruto and the UDA party.
He emphasized his commitment to the party and expressed his intention to contest the seat again in the 2027 general elections.
Malulu also called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to ensure a free and fair by-election on November 27, 2025.
The Malava by-election is expected to be highly competitive, with Ndakwa facing challengers from other parties, including Seth Panyako of DAP-K and Edgar Busiega of DCP.
The election outcome will be closely watched as a barometer for political dynamics in the region ahead of the 2027 general elections.
