Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku, has refuted allegations that he is using government projects and resources to campaign for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate in Mbeere North constituency ahead of the upcoming by-election.
Speaking during a press briefing on Sunday, CS Ruku dismissed the accusations as baseless and politically motivated.
He insisted that his recent visits to the constituency were purely official and aimed at inspecting ongoing government projects meant to improve service delivery in the region.
“I am a Cabinet Secretary serving the whole country. My visits to Mbeere North have been in my official capacity to monitor government programs and ensure that taxpayer resources are used effectively.
Linking these official functions to political campaigns is misleading and unfair,” Ruku said.
The CS further called on politicians to respect the independence of public institutions and avoid dragging development projects into partisan politics.
He emphasized that the government remains committed to equitable development across all counties, regardless of political affiliations.
Local leaders allied to rival parties had earlier accused Ruku of using the launch of water projects, road rehabilitation initiatives, and school infrastructure improvements to rally support for the UDA candidate.
They claimed that his presence at public gatherings was being used to subtly endorse the ruling party’s aspirant.
However, Ruku reiterated that government projects belong to the people and not any individual or political party. He urged residents to focus on development and avoid being swayed by divisive politics.
The Mbeere North by-election, expected to be hotly contested, has drawn attention from major political players seeking to strengthen their influence in Embu County.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has assured voters of a free and fair electoral process.
