This directive follows numerous public complaints regarding excessive noise emanating from these establishments, particularly in urban areas like Nairobi and Mombasa.
Residents have reported disturbances caused by loud music and amplified sound systems operating late into the night, disrupting the peace and well-being of surrounding communities.
Despite previous warnings and the issuance of Environmental Restoration Orders to many of these facilities, a significant number have failed to submit the required environmental compliance documents. NEMA has now mandated that the affected establishments provide the following within seven days:
Failure to meet these requirements will result in enforcement actions, including potential shutdowns. NEMA emphasizes that these measures are in line with the 2009 Noise and Excessive Vibration Pollution Regulations, which aim to mitigate environmental and health impacts associated with noise pollution.
This crackdown underscores NEMA’s commitment to ensuring compliance with environmental standards and protecting the rights of residents to a peaceful living environment.
Establishments are urged to adhere to the stipulated guidelines to avoid legal repercussions and contribute to a harmonious community atmosphere.
