The race for Nairobi’s governor seat in the 2027 elections is already heating up, with new polls showing unexpected shifts in voter support.
A recent survey by TV47 places Embakasi East MP Babu Owino in the lead with 28.1% support.
This marks a major rise in his popularity, especially among young and working-class Nairobians who see him as energetic and outspoken.
In second place is Irungu Nyakera, patron of Nairobi DCP, with 19.2%, a result that has surprised many observers.
He’s polling ahead of current Governor Johnson Sakaja, who came third with 16.4%, suggesting growing public dissatisfaction with his leadership.
Embakasi North MP James Gakuya follows with 11.2%, while former MP Dennis Waweru has 3.1% and politician Agnes Kagure trails with 1.9%. Notably, 20.3% of respondents remain undecided, meaning the race could shift dramatically as campaigns progress.
The poll suggests a possible change in Nairobi’s political landscape. Babu Owino’s grassroots support and bold leadership style are gaining traction.
For Sakaja, the results highlight the need to rebuild public trust. As the campaign season unfolds, attention will be on whether Babu can maintain his lead, how Nyakera builds on his momentum, and whether Sakaja can bounce back.
With many voters still undecided, the race remains wide open—but for now, Babu Owino is leading the pack.
