David Obasi Maoncha, an 18-year-old from Kisii County, is mourning the sudden loss of his father, who passed away just days before David was set to start university.
His father, aged 43, had been battling kidney failure for the past two months, and his death has left David heartbroken as he prepares for a new chapter in his life without his father’s support.
In an emotional interview, David shared the last words his father spoke to him before he died.
These words are now etched in David’s memory, reflecting the close bond they shared.
The young man is struggling to cope with this loss, especially since he was looking forward to beginning his studies at Machakos University.
David explained that his father had been healthy until recently.
They first noticed something was wrong when his father’s legs became swollen.
After taking him to the hospital, he was diagnosed with kidney failure.
Although he was discharged for a short time, his health worsened, and he had to return to the hospital one final time.
As David prepared for university, his father had been very encouraging and supportive. They had even raised nearly KSh 100,000 for his university admission.
Unfortunately, much of that money went toward covering his father’s medical expenses.
David remembered their last conversation, where his father urged him to study hard and reassured him that he would recover and help with his educational costs.
Tragically, David’s father did not live to see him start university. .He passed away while receiving treatment in the hospital, and David laid him to rest on September 11, 2025.
The funeral was a touching event attended by family and friends who came to honor his father’s memory.
After the funeral, David expressed a strong desire to continue his education.
Although he received some financial help from friends and family, he still needs about KSh 30,000 to pay off the remaining balance for his university fees.
