Githurai 44 Member of County Assembly, Deonysias Mwangi Waithira, has told people that he wants to leave his job but will first sit with them before he makes the final step.
Last week, Waithira gave a letter to the Speaker of the Nairobi County Assembly saying he was tired and wanted to quit.
Speaking on Monday in an NTV interview, Waithira said he would not fight again for the MCA seat even if a by-election was called today.
He explained that he felt blocked by the County Executive, saying projects were not being done and services were failing.
“I have said things are not working under this regime. Even if IEBC announces a by-election today, I will not run,” Waithira told the TV station.
But Speaker Kennedy Ng’ondi later said the letter was not valid because it did not have Waithira’s proper signature. Still, Waithira insisted he was serious and not chasing personal gain.
He said he could have stayed home and earned salary, but he chose truth and service.
On Tuesday, September 23, Waithira announced he would meet with the people of Githurai in a public place. He promised to listen. If they ask him to go, he will go at once.
If they ask him to wait, he will wait. He also claimed that many other MCAs share the same pain but fear to speak.
One resident, Mary Njeri, said: “We voted for him to fight for us, not to suffer alone. If he leaves, we are the ones who will lose voice.”
Another resident, Peter Kamau, reacted differently: “If he feels he cannot help us anymore, it is better he steps aside and lets another person try.”
