Property of unknown value was destroyed last night at Litein Boys High School in Kericho County after students went on a rampage, allegedly protesting being denied permission to watch the much-anticipated English Premier League match between Arsenal and Manchester City.
The incident occurred around 9:30 PM on Sunday, just as the match was kicking off. According to sources within the school, the students became agitated when the administration refused to allow them access to a TV room or provide alternative means to view the game. Tension quickly escalated, with students hurling stones, breaking windows, and damaging school infrastructure.
School principal Mr. Peter Langat confirmed the unrest and said no injuries were reported, but learning has been temporarily suspended as investigations commence.
“We are still assessing the extent of the damage. Fortunately, no student or staff was harmed,” Mr. Langat told reporters on Monday morning.
Local police, led by Litein OCPD Sarah Ruto, were called in to contain the situation. Calm has since been restored.
Parents have been urged to remain calm as the Board of Management convenes to decide the way forward. The motive behind the protest remains under investigation.
