A fatal road accident along the busy Nairobi–Mombasa highway in Machakos County has claimed the life of prominent businessman Dennis Kasyoki and left another person injured. The tragic crash occurred shortly after midnight near the Primarosa area in Athi River Subcounty.
According to reports, Kasyoki, a billionaire entrepreneur from Mbooni in Makueni County, was driving his Ford Ranger towards Nairobi when the accident happened. Police indicated that the Ford Ranger collided with a trailer that was also traveling in the same direction. Preliminary investigations suggest that Kasyoki attempted to overtake the trailer but miscalculated the maneuver. As he cut back in too quickly, the rear of his vehicle struck the trailer, leading to a devastating impact.
The collision caused both vehicles to swerve off the road. In a tragic turn, the trailer’s container toppled and landed directly on the Ford Ranger, trapping and crushing the businessman inside. Sadly, Kasyoki died instantly at the scene.
A passenger who was in the vehicle with him survived the accident but sustained injuries. The survivor was rushed to Shalom Community Hospital in Athi River, where they are receiving emergency treatment. Fortunately, the driver of the trailer escaped unhurt.
Traffic police officers from Athi River Police Station quickly responded to the scene and secured the wreckage. They confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident and whether other factors, such as speeding or mechanical failure, may have contributed to the tragedy.
The sudden death of Kasyoki has sent shockwaves across Makueni and beyond. He was widely respected as a visionary entrepreneur who played a significant role in fostering economic growth in his home region. Family, friends, and colleagues described him as a generous leader whose contributions went beyond business, positively impacting many lives.
