A section of Western region leaders led by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Co-operatives, MSMEs CS Wycliffe Oparanya have issued demands to President William Ruto over the 2027 line up.
The leaders urged Ruto take the Deputy President seat from Mt Kenya and give it to the Luhya Community
They added the community’s numerical strength qualifies a Luhya for the Deputy President position in 2027 and, eventually, the presidency in 2032.
Wetang’ula pledged to support Ruto’s re-election to strategically position the community for national leadership
“We’re on a journey to consolidate our numbers. We’re not playing with leadership; we must achieve it,” he said, adding that past regimes had marginalised the region in development.
Others leaders present during the gathering were; Western Parliamentary Caucus chair John Waluke, Lurambi MP Titus Khamala, Khwisero MP Christopher Aseka, Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera, Bungoma Senator Wafula Wakoli, Kakamega Woman Representative Elsie Muhanda and Ikolomani MP Bernard Shinali.
The leaders comprised of ODM and UDA vowed to unite Western region and mobilize mass voter registration before election.
This comes after Kakamega Governor Farnandes Barasa stated that the party would not field a candidate in Malava By-election.
Barasa said the decision was made in the spirit of unity and service to the people of Malava.
He explained that ODM had placed the interests of residents above party competition after consultations.
