Former Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba has called on Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba to take decisive action against Sunshine Academy following shocking allegations of student-on-student molestation within the institution.
Orwoba, known for her outspoken stance on issues affecting children and women, urged the Ministry of Education to prioritize student safety and protect victims of abuse by shutting down the school pending investigations.
Speaking during a press briefing, Orwoba expressed outrage over reports that several students had been subjected to sexual harassment and physical assault by their peers, allegedly with little to no intervention from school authorities.
She criticized the management of Sunshine Academy for what she termed as negligence and a failure to provide a secure learning environment.
The former senator emphasized that such incidents not only traumatize victims but also compromise the mental well-being and academic progress of all learners.
She insisted that immediate closure of the school would allow thorough investigations without interference and send a strong message to other institutions.
Parents and child rights activists have joined the call, demanding justice and the implementation of stricter child protection policies across schools nationwide to curb similar incidents in the future.
