Young people from Kisii and Nyamira counties are speaking out. They’re tired of leaders who only care about themselves and are calling for real inclusion in Kenya’s development.
At a youth forum held over the weekend, professionals and community leaders said they feel ignored by politicians who make big promises but don’t deliver. They warned that unless youth are included in decision-making, development will remain just empty talk.
The youth said Kenya can’t grow economically or socially without their active involvement. With high unemployment, few leadership roles, and limited access to opportunities, they’re asking both national and county governments to take their concerns seriously.
Their message puts more pressure on President William Ruto’s government, which has faced criticism for not doing enough for young people. Many in Kisii and Nyamira say they haven’t seen the jobs and opportunities they were promised.
Experts believe this united stand could spark a bigger movement across Kenya. With nearly 70% of the population under 35, youth are the most powerful voting group. Ignoring them could hurt the ruling party in the 2027 elections.
The youth are proposing solutions like youth advisory councils, special programs to support young entrepreneurs, and giving young professionals a seat at the table in policymaking.
For now, Kisii and Nyamira youth are making it clear: they want to shape their future, not just watch from the sidelines.
