A family in Bomet County is demanding justice after their son, a Grade Seven pupil, was allegedly injured by his teacher during punishment. The learner, identified as Gideon Kipngetich from Chilgotwet Primary School, is said to have been beaten after failing to complete an assignment. Relatives claim that the punishment left him unable to walk without assistance.
A video shared online shows the boy struggling to move while being helped into a car by two men. His father, visibly distressed, accused the teacher of using excessive force.
According to reports, Kipngetich, who is said to be on the autism spectrum, was later taken to hospital, where doctors recommended further medical tests, including an MRI scan.
The matter was also reported at Chepilat Police Station, but the school’s administration has not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident.
The case has sparked debate on social media, with many users condemning corporal punishment in schools.
One parent commented, “Discipline should not come at the cost of a child’s health. This was excessive and unacceptable.” Another added, “Teachers should focus on guiding learners, not inflicting harm.”The family has called on authorities to investigate the case and take appropriate action against those responsible. Do you think teachers should still use corporal punishment as a way of disciplining learners in schools?
