ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has publicly supported Raila Odinga’s position on the party’s strategy for the 2027 general elections. His reaction came after Raila affirmed that ODM has not abandoned its plan to field a presidential candidate despite recent speculation.
On Monday, Raila clarified that ODM will make its decision on the presidential race at the right time, dismissing claims that the party had given up its position in favor of President William Ruto’s UDA. Shortly after, Sifuna, who skipped the event, signaled his agreement through a social media post that emphasized Raila’s statement.
Sifuna has previously criticized the Kenya Kwanza administration and has openly rejected any suggestion that ODM could endorse Ruto for re-election. His show of support now strengthens the voices in the party who are resisting ODM’s close engagement with UDA under the ongoing cooperation agreement.
The pushback is also visible among youthful MPs allied to ODM. Embakasi East legislator Babu Owino and Saboti MP Caleb Amisi have consistently opposed the partnership, warning that it risks weakening the party’s independence. Both lawmakers were noticeably absent from the gathering where Raila restated ODM’s position.
