Maragua Member of Parliament Mary Wamaua on Monday afternoon faced a hostile reception from residents during a public function at Kimorori Grounds in Kenol, Murang’a County. The incident disrupted her address as an agitated crowd jeered and eventually forced her to leave the venue.
Eyewitnesses said tension began shortly after the legislator attempted to address the gathering. A section of the residents started heckling her, accusing her of neglecting local development priorities and failing to deliver on campaign promises. Despite efforts to calm the situation, the chants grew louder, and security officers intervened to shield her from the swelling crowd.
“We wanted to hear her plans for Maragua, but all we got were empty words. People are tired of being ignored,” one resident said, reflecting the mood among the protesters.
Sources indicated that some of the dissatisfaction was fueled by local political rivalries, with opponents reportedly mobilizing groups to disrupt the meeting. Others, however, argued that the outburst was a genuine expression of frustration over unfulfilled pledges regarding roads, water projects, and youth empowerment initiatives.
Wamaua, who left the venue without addressing the full gathering, has not issued an official statement regarding the incident. Close allies, however, dismissed the disruption as politically motivated, insisting that the MP remains committed to serving her constituents.
The dramatic scenes highlight the growing restlessness among voters in Murang’a County as political temperatures rise ahead of the next election cycle. Observers say such confrontations may become more common as leaders face increasing scrutiny from the electorate eager for accountability and tangible results.
