The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced that all transporters’ licences for vehicles conveying transit and other customs-controlled goods will expire on December 31, 2025.
Transporters are required to submit their renewal applications by October 31, 2025, at designated regional customs offices or at Times Tower in Nairobi.
The renewal fee is set at US$200 (approximately KSh 25,800) per vehicle. KRA has emphasized that payments should only be made through official KRA accounts to ensure proper processing.
To complete the renewal process, transporters must provide several documents, including:
A copy of the motor vehicle logbook
A valid insurance certificate
A COMESA Yellow Card or equivalent insurance cover for foreign vehicles
A duly completed application form signed and stamped by a customs officer
Failure to renew licences before the deadline will result in vehicles being barred from conveying transit or other customs-controlled goods within the region.
Transporters are encouraged to log onto the iTax portal or contact KRA’s Customs and Border Control department for guidance and application forms.
This move aligns with the East African Community Customs Management Act, 2004, and the 2010 Customs Management Regulations, aiming to enhance compliance and streamline operations within the region.
