Wiper Democratic Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka has firmly ruled out the possibility of aligning himself with President William Ruto’s administration, declaring that he will not betray the Kamba community for political convenience.
Speaking at a rally in Machakos on Saturday, Kalonzo insisted that his political future remains tied to the aspirations of his people and the broader opposition movement.
“I want to make it clear: I will not betray the Kamba community by joining Ruto’s regime.
Our struggle is not about personal gain but about justice and fairness for every Kenyan,” Kalonzo said, drawing loud applause from the crowd.
His remarks come at a time when speculation has been rife about the possibility of opposition leaders warming up to the government as the 2027 elections inch closer.
However, Kalonzo emphasized that his focus is on strengthening the Azimio coalition and ensuring that the voices of marginalized communities are heard at the national table.
The former Vice President also accused the Kenya Kwanza government of failing to address the pressing economic challenges facing ordinary Kenyans, including the high cost of living, unemployment, and rising taxation.
He maintained that joining such a regime would amount to abandoning the very people he has vowed to represent.
Political observers believe Kalonzo’s strong stance is aimed at consolidating his Ukambani base while positioning himself as a credible opposition candidate ahead of the next polls.
His declaration also sends a clear message to rivals that he remains a central figure in shaping the 2027 political landscape.
For now, Kalonzo’s words reinforce his long-standing image as a cautious but loyal leader, unwilling to trade community trust for short-term political advantage.
