The Kenyan government is set to establish 37 modern sports academies across the country in the first phase of a nationwide talent development initiative.
This project, announced by Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports, Salim Mvurya, aims to identify and nurture athletic talent from grassroots levels.
An allocation of Ksh 1.7 billion has been earmarked for the construction of these academies, which will serve as state-of-the-art training complexes.
The academies are strategically located in various constituencies, including Matuga, Kinango, Nandi Hills, and Turkana North, among others.
Each facility is designed to provide comprehensive training programs, coaching, and support services to aspiring athletes.
CS Mvurya emphasized that this initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to enhance Kenya’s sports infrastructure and ensure sustainable development of talent.
By investing in these academies, the government seeks to create a conducive environment for athletes to excel and represent the nation on international platforms.
The rollout of these academies is expected to significantly contribute to the growth and success of Kenyan sports in the coming years.
