The Kenyan government has announced enhanced cash rewards for athletes who secure medals at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
Under the new scheme, gold medalists will receive Ksh 3 million, silver medalists Ksh 2 million, and bronze medalists Ksh 1 million.
This marks a significant increase from previous rewards, where gold winners received Ksh 750,000, silver Ksh 500,000, and bronze Ksh 350,000.
The revised reward structure aims to recognize and motivate Kenyan athletes for their exceptional performances on the global stage.
The increase in prize money reflects the government’s commitment to supporting sports and encouraging excellence among its athletes.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya emphasized that the new rewards would provide athletes with the financial support needed to focus on their training and competitions.
Kenya’s athletes have historically excelled in long-distance and middle-distance events, and the government’s initiative is expected to further inspire them to continue their dominance in international athletics.
The 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo will serve as a platform for Kenyan athletes to showcase their talents and compete for top honors.
