Kenya’s popular striker Masoud Juma has stirred fresh waves of conversation after announcing his intention to vie for the Isiolo North parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election. More than just a footballer with a powerful left foot, Juma is positioning himself as a leader with a plan – blending his sports pedigree with promises of socio-economic development.
Hailing from Isiolo himself, Juma unveiled a comprehensive six-point manifesto under the banner “From the pitch to Parliament – together, we can score a better future for Isiolo North.” His agenda touches on the urgent needs of constituents: youth empowerment through skills training, job creation, and entrepreneurship support; improved infrastructure including roads, clean water, electricity; enhanced healthcare; sports development aimed at keeping youth away from crime and drugs; reducing poverty by empowering farmers and traders; and fostering accountability, unity, and equal rights while opposing tribalism in politics.
Masoud’s leap into politics arrives on the back of a successful football career that has taken him from clubs in Kenya to stints abroad, including his recent move to Nejmeh SC in Lebanon He was also part of Kenya’s Harambee Stars squad in CHAN 2024, which drew national praise for strong performances.
Still, the path to parliamentary victory seems steep. A recent poll by Mizani Africa shows businessman Mwenda Thuranira currently leading the race in Isiolo North with over 60% support, far ahead of other contenders.
Whether Masoud Juma can transform his popularity into votes remains to be seen. But one thing is certain: his entry into politics shines a spotlight on the growing expectation that sports personalities can do more than entertain—they can also inspire and lead.
