Rhyan Injendi, son of the late Malava MP Malulu Injendi, has accused Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi of interfering with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party primaries in Malava Constituency, following his defeat in the recently concluded nominations.
Speaking during a press briefing on Sunday where he formally conceded defeat, Rhyan expressed disappointment over the manner in which the party conducted the primaries.
He alleged that the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary had influenced the outcome, tipping the scales in favor of his rival.
“I respect the will of the people, but this was not a free and fair process,” Rhyan said. “If we had been allowed to deliberate as candidates instead of rushing into a flawed election, I am confident the people of Malava would have entrusted me with the ticket.”
Rhyan’s remarks underscore growing tensions within the ruling UDA party, particularly in key electoral regions where nomination battles have turned contentious.
His loss comes as a blow to his political aspirations and to supporters who viewed him as the natural successor to his late father, who served Malava for several years.
While Rhyan did not provide detailed evidence to back his claims, he insisted that the nomination process was compromised by external forces aligned with top government officials. “This was not just politics — it was a calculated move,” he said.
The UDA party has not yet issued an official response to the allegations, and efforts to reach the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary for comment were unsuccessful by press time.
Rhyan concluded by thanking his supporters and promising to remain active in public service, hinting at a potential independent candidacy or future political moves.
The UDA primaries in Kakamega County, where Malava Constituency lies, have been particularly competitive, with multiple aspirants vying for influence in a region historically split between various political factions.
As the 2027 general elections inch closer, internal party dynamics within UDA and other major political outfits are expected to intensify, especially in constituencies with strong political legacies like Malava.
