Litein Boys High School was thrown into chaos on Sunday night after students went on a violent rampage, forcing the school to be closed indefinitely. The unrest broke out when the administration refused to allow learners to watch the highly anticipated English Premier League clash between Arsenal and Manchester City.
According to reports, the students had expected to enjoy the 90-minute game under their usual weekend entertainment program. However, the denial sparked anger, and the frustration quickly turned into a strike that saw dormitories and classrooms set ablaze.
Images and videos from the scene showed thick smoke rising from several buildings while charred walls and scattered debris painted a grim picture. Property worth millions of shillings was destroyed as the students carried out the rampage under the cover of darkness after switching off the compound lights.
Police officers and school guards were overwhelmed as the learners overpowered security. The destruction left the compound in ruins and raised fresh concerns about discipline and school leadership at the institution.
This is not the first time Litein Boys has faced unrest. In July, students staged another strike after being served undercooked rice during dinner. That incident ended with police intervention as property was vandalized by angry learners.
Two years earlier in 2023, the school also made headlines after a riot that led to the destruction of biometric systems, window panes, and several vehicles within the compound. On that occasion, the school was also closed indefinitely as investigations began.
Education officials, security teams, and the school board have already launched investigations into the latest incident. Questions are now being raised about whether the administration has effective strategies to deal with recurring cases of student indiscipline.
The repeated chaos at Litein Boys High School has left parents, teachers, and the public worried. Many now wonder what lasting measures will be put in place to restore order and protect learning at the troubled institution.
