Primate Elijah Ayodele, the well-known Nigerian cleric who drew global attention in 2022 after foretelling William Ruto’s presidential victory, has once again turned his prophetic lens toward Kenya’s political future.
This time, his message is directed squarely at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who has recently declared his interest in the presidency ahead of the 2027 elections.
Through a press statement delivered by his media aide, the leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church cautioned Gachagua against pursuing what he described as a doomed ambition.
According to Ayodele, the path to unseating President Ruto does not lie in individual power struggles or wealthy backers, but rather in the collective force of Kenya’s young generation.
He urged Gachagua to step aside from personal pursuit of State House and instead channel his influence and resources toward supporting a candidate who has the blessing and backing of Generation Z.
Ayodele explained that Ruto, determined to secure a second term, would not shy away from employing the full weight of incumbency to remain in power.
He even suggested that the president could resort to questionable tactics, including rigging, if necessary. In such a climate, the prophet stressed, only a grassroots movement energized by young people has the capacity to mount an effective challenge.
“Kenya’s salvation will come from the Gen Z movement,” Ayodele declared. “If the youth rally behind a fresh candidate, they can defeat Ruto. But if the former deputy president contests, his effort will be fruitless. He should rather invest in the candidate chosen by the youth, because that is where the future lies.”
This prophecy comes shortly after Gachagua’s own high-profile announcement of his 2027 presidential bid. While unveiling his plans, the former deputy president promised to scrap the controversial housing levy introduced under Ruto’s administration.
He also pledged to devolve all housing projects to county governments and compensate citizens who had been subjected to what he described as unfair deductions. These promises were carefully framed as pro-people policies meant to resonate with ordinary Kenyans struggling under the current economic burden.
His declaration rattled the political scene, especially within opposition circles. Until his announcement, speculation was rife that a united opposition front would likely coalesce around a Kalonzo Musyoka–Fred Matiang’i ticket, with Gachagua possibly positioned as a kingmaker or power broker.
Instead, by stepping forward as a presidential contender, he disrupted these expectations and injected new uncertainty into succession politics.
Ayodele’s latest words, however, strike at the heart of this unfolding drama. By warning Gachagua against personal ambition, the prophet has reopened a debate about whether established political figures can still capture the mood of a restless Kenyan electorate.
His focus on Gen Z is also telling. Over the past two years, Kenya’s youth have become increasingly vocal, particularly in protests against rising taxes, unemployment, and governance failures. To Ayodele, they are the only demographic with the energy, unity, and moral authority to galvanize change.
This is not the first time the Nigerian prophet has staked his reputation on Kenya’s elections. Ahead of the 2022 polls, he boldly predicted that William Ruto would beat Raila Odinga in the very first round, provided he secured backing from Mount Kenya voters, young people, and women.
He later insisted that this message was divinely inspired. His accuracy in that cycle earned him attention across Africa, and many now watch his pronouncements on Kenya’s 2027 race with renewed interest.
Whether Gachagua heeds the warning remains to be seen. What is clear, however, is that Ayodele has once again shifted the spotlight to Kenya’s restless youth, painting them as the decisive force in the political battles ahead.
