Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has expressed gratitude to members of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) following his election as the party’s presidential flagbearer ahead of the upcoming general elections.
Speaking to journalists after the announcement, Museveni thanked party delegates for their continued support and reaffirmed his commitment to leading Uganda through another term.
“I sincerely thank all NRM members for entrusting me with the responsibility to represent our party in the forthcoming presidential elections.
Your confidence motivates me to continue serving our great nation with dedication,” President Museveni said.
The election, held during the NRM’s party convention, confirmed Museveni as the party’s candidate, paving the way for him to contest in the national polls.
Party officials highlighted that the process was conducted in accordance with internal NRM regulations, emphasizing transparency and adherence to democratic procedures within the party framework.
Political analysts note that Museveni’s nomination is a significant step in the lead-up to Uganda’s general elections, as it solidifies the ruling party’s position and signals the continuation of its political agenda.
Supporters have welcomed the development, praising Museveni for his long-standing leadership and experience in governance.
Museveni also used the opportunity to appeal for unity within the party and across the country.
He encouraged NRM members to focus on development priorities, including infrastructure, healthcare, and education, while avoiding divisive politics that could disrupt national cohesion.
As Uganda approaches the general elections, Museveni’s reaffirmation as the NRM flagbearer sets the stage for a highly anticipated electoral season.
His acknowledgment of party members’ support underscores the importance of grassroots engagement and loyalty within Uganda’s political landscape, reflecting the critical role of internal party dynamics in shaping national leadership.
