Cooperatives and SMEs Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya has publicly addressed circulating claims of a political rift between him and Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa, dismissing suggestions of strained relations as unfounded.
The CS spoke during a press briefing in Kakamega County, emphasizing unity and collaboration in advancing development agendas.
Oparanya described the rumours as politically motivated, aimed at creating unnecessary tension ahead of upcoming electoral cycles.
“There is no rift between Governor Barasa and myself. Our shared focus remains the development and welfare of Kakamega County residents.
We work together on numerous projects and initiatives for the benefit of our people,” he stated.
The Cabinet Secretary highlighted ongoing collaborations with the county government, particularly in supporting cooperatives and small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) that form the backbone of Kakamega’s local economy.
He noted that both national and county governments are committed to fostering an environment conducive to business growth, job creation, and inclusive development.
Governor Barasa has also been active in various county development projects, ranging from infrastructure upgrades to youth empowerment programs.
Analysts suggest that political speculation over personal relationships often emerges during periods of heightened campaign activity, but in this instance, both leaders appear focused on service delivery rather than political rivalry.
Oparanya further called on the public and media to refrain from spreading unverified claims, stressing that political cohesion is essential for sustainable development.
“Our constituents expect results, not rumours. We urge everyone to focus on tangible achievements and collaborative governance,” he added.
The CS’s clarification is expected to quell speculation ahead of the next electoral cycle, reinforcing the message that cooperation between national and county leaders is critical for accelerating socio-economic progress in Kakamega.
