Controversial Nigerian prophet Primate Elijah Ayodele has stirred debate in Kenya’s political circles after claiming that only a candidate from the Gen Z generation has the potential to unseat President William Ruto in a future election.
Addressing his followers during a prophecy session in Lagos, the leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church singled out former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, saying he must recognize the changing political tide if he wishes to remain relevant.
According to Ayodele, Kenya is entering a new political season where the youth will play a decisive role.
He argued that the Gen Z-led protests in Kenya revealed the strength and influence of young people in shaping governance. The prophet added that traditional political strategies anchored in tribal alliances and patronage networks will no longer hold the same power in the coming years.
“Tell your former Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua, that if he wants to challenge Ruto, he must understand that the future belongs to the young. Only a Gen Z candidate can dethrone Ruto,” Ayodele declared.
His prophecy comes at a time of rising political speculation in Kenya, with questions about succession, alliances, and the role of new movements dominating national debate.
Analysts note that while Ayodele’s claims may be dismissed by some, they touch on a truth many politicians are beginning to acknowledge—the political awakening of Kenya’s younger generation.
Kenya’s Gen Z population, largely under 30 years old, makes up the majority of voters and has been increasingly vocal on social and economic issues.
Their protests against tax policies and governance have shaken the political establishment, sending a strong message about their readiness to challenge the status quo.
Former Deputy President Gachagua, who has been positioning himself as a defender of Mt. Kenya interests, is likely to pay attention to such sentiments, especially as he seeks to strengthen his political base.
However, critics argue that aligning with Gen Z demands more than rhetoric—it requires addressing unemployment, corruption, and inclusivity.
While Primate Ayodele is known for making bold political prophecies across Africa, reactions to his message in Kenya remain divided.
Some dismiss his statements as theatrics, while others see them as a reflection of shifting realities in the country’s politics.
Whether or not his prophecy proves true, one thing is clear: the growing influence of Gen Z in Kenya is reshaping the conversation about the country’s political future.
