Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino now alleges that President William Ruto is on a mission to demolish the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) before the 2027 General Elections.
Speaking in an interview with Ramogi TV on Wednesday evening, the legislator warned that the Head of State was on the edge of destroying ODM’s political domination through broad-based collaboration.
“Ruto pretends to collaborate with ODM, but deep down, he intends to destroy the party from inside. Babu cautioned that Ruto is not in good spirits while working with the ODM party.
Babu stated that, while his thoughts may be interpreted as revenge against his own party, he cautioned that the party must walk carefully, particularly while dealing with Ruto.
In his remarks, the congressman urged ODM politicians who back the current leadership to reconsider their decision and return to their monitoring position.
He cited Odinga’s recent utterances, in which the former Prime Minister reaffirmed that ODM was an independent party with the right to run its own candidate in 2027.
Babu underlined that Odinga’s words indicated that the party remained in opposition, despite some of its members entering President Ruto’s cabinet.
“We have been accused of opposing ODM, but Raila recently supported our position. He advised us not to become too involved in this, but some of our comrades refused to listen,” Babu said.
“In my view, despite ODM being in the broad-based government, they should also balance it by ensuring it maintains its support in the opposition in case of anything,” the politician said.
During the interview, Owino also stated that he had accepted the reality that the party would not support his Nairobi gubernatorial ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections.
