A group of boda boda riders in Nairobi set a luxury Audi SQ5 worth Sh9 million on fire after it allegedly knocked down and killed one of their own on Thika Road.
The incident happened in the afternoon, turning a busy highway into a scene of chaos and anger.
The riders, fueled by rage, torched the white SUV as the owner watched helplessly.
Firefighters from Ruiru Municipality arrived but could only mitigate the damage, as the car was already a shell by then.
The accident sparked a violent reaction from the riders. They surrounded the Audi, accusing the driver of causing the rider’s death.
Videos shared online showed the car engulfed in flames, with thick black smoke rising into the sky.The damage was extensive, leaving the vehicle beyond repair.
This incident is part of a troubling trend of clashes between motorists and boda boda riders in Nairobi.
Earlier in September, over 80 suspects were arrested following public outcry over rising robberies and violence involving riders.
The Audi SQ5, a high-end model, became a target of the riders’ frustration.
Its value, estimated at Sh9 million, made the destruction even more shocking.
Online reactions were mixed. Some condemned the riders’ actions, calling for legal consequences.
