A political event in Mosocho on Thursday turned chaotic after Kitutu Chache North MP Japheth Nyakundi came under attack from angry youths chanting “Wantam.” The meeting, which was meant to be a broad-based gathering, was disrupted when stones and arrows were hurled, forcing leaders and supporters to scamper for safety.
Eyewitnesses say tension started building when a group of young people stormed the venue, accusing the MP of ignoring their concerns. The situation escalated quickly as they shouted slogans calling for President William Ruto to serve only one term. Within minutes, the crowd grew restless, and violence broke out.
The youths descended on the MP, pelting him with stones and attempting to rough him up. Security officers and members of his entourage rushed him to safety as the melee spread to nearby roads. Several vehicles, including those belonging to his convoy, were targeted with stones as the attackers continued chanting “Wantam.”
Residents described the incident as the most dramatic confrontation in recent months, noting that political divisions in the area are deepening. Mosocho, which has in the past hosted peaceful political events, is increasingly becoming volatile as the 2027 election debate gains momentum.
Although Nyakundi managed to escape unharmed, sources close to him confirmed that the legislator had to run for his life. The event ended prematurely, with leaders abandoning their speeches and participants dispersing in panic.
