The Democracy for Citizens (DCP) Party has weighed in on the state of Kenya’s health sector, accusing President William Ruto of incompetently managing the ministry. The party claims Ruto has failed to empower capable leaders, forcing himself into technical matters.
In a statement shared on Monday, September 22, 2025, through its official X account, DCP accused the Head of State of constantly speaking about health issues. They said such responsibility should lie with technocrats, not the President himself.
The party drew sharp comparisons with former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime, noting that health matters were effectively managed by Mutahi Kagwe, Nancy Mwangangi, and Patrick Amoth. According to DCP, Ruto’s government lacks equally competent officials to steer the ministry.
DCP further criticized the President’s repeated focus on the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) and Social Health Authority (SHA). They argued his involvement highlights a failure to delegate responsibilities to qualified experts who should manage the ministry on his behalf.
The party, led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, extended its criticism to the Ministry of Education. They accused Ruto of slowing down reforms, citing delayed examination results and lack of adequate funding for schools, which has worsened public frustration.
According to the statement, former Education CS George Magoha, alongside Matiang’i and Kibicho, provided firm leadership that commanded respect without constant presidential reminders. DCP argued that Ruto’s frequent public appearances have eroded the dignity of the presidency.
The party praised Uhuru’s cabinet as strong and self-reliant, contrasting it with Ruto’s team, which they described as weak and ineffective. They insisted that Uhuru maintained authority by surrounding himself with competent leaders who carried out their duties independently.
In scathing remarks, DCP accused Ruto of deceiving Kenyans into believing he was smarter than Uhuru. They argued the current challenges show Uhuru was more strategic and efficient, explaining why the two could not work together during their tenure.
DCP concluded by claiming Ruto’s overexposure and obsession with public relations have weakened his government. They insisted that Kenya deserves a more organized administration, one that can address healthcare and education issues without constant presidential intervention.
