The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), allied to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, has strongly criticised President William Ruto, accusing him of plotting to lure Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka into a political alliance ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
Kalonzo, however, has consistently dismissed any likelihood of partnering with the Head of State. He insists he will not join what he calls a “blood-based government,” signalling a firm refusal to compromise his political independence despite pressure.
In a Sunday, September 21, 2025, post on X, the Gachagua-led faction accused Ruto of using unconventional methods, including clergy, local politicians and even traditional figures, to convince Kalonzo to desert the united opposition.
The DCP reminded Kenyans that Ruto narrowly won the 2022 presidential election against Raila Odinga by just 200,000 votes. They argued this slim margin has left him politically unsettled and desperate to weaken opposition strongholds ahead of the next contest.
According to DCP, Ruto is especially worried about losing the Mt. Kenya voting bloc, where his popularity has waned, and equally concerned about Kalonzo’s stronghold in Ukambani. They believe these shifts threaten his prospects for a second-term victory.
The party dismissed the United Democratic Alliance’s outward display of confidence, calling it an illusion meant to mask growing hostility on the ground. DCP argued that UDA relies heavily on financial inducements rather than genuine public support.
“The public cannot be fooled by theatrics. Ruto’s political loading will not work,” the party statement read, stressing that Kenyans are alert and will resist being manipulated into false narratives about alliances and development promises.
Meanwhile, opposition allies have warned Kalonzo against associating with Ruto. Led by Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi, they claim politicians often exploit Kalonzo’s name during campaigns but later abandon the region’s development agenda once they secure power.
Mwangangi urged Kalonzo to remain steadfast and avoid imposing unpopular leaders on Ukambani voters. He emphasised that respecting the people’s voice will strengthen his leadership and guard against betrayal by opportunistic politicians who seek only personal gain.
