Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has stirred political debate with remarks suggesting President William Ruto is strategically using allies to influence upcoming elections.
Speaking in a recent statement, Gachagua compared certain political figures to “wheelbarrows,” implying they are being deployed to split votes in various regions.
According to Gachagua, the term “wheelbarrows” refers to individuals who act under Ruto’s guidance to sway voter support, potentially weakening opposition influence.
He highlighted that prominent leaders, including Moses Kuria, have been enlisted as part of this strategy. Gachagua singled out figures such as Kiunjuri and Kabogo, labeling them as key “wheelbarrows” in this political maneuvering.
The Deputy President claimed that Ruto has a significant number of these operatives across different counties. In Murang’a, for instance, he alleged there are two such individuals actively engaged in vote influence.
He further noted that Kiambu and Kirinyaga counties each host a “wheelbarrow,” tasked with managing political dynamics favorable to Ruto.
Gachagua’s statements appear to underscore a broader narrative of political strategizing ahead of upcoming elections, highlighting the complex network of influence deployed by leading politicians.
Observers suggest that such remarks are likely to intensify the political discourse, especially in regions where electoral contests are expected to be highly competitive.
As the political season unfolds, attention will be on how these alliances and strategies impact voter patterns and whether the so-called “wheelbarrows” play a decisive role in shaping electoral outcomes.
