Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has urged residents of Mbeere North to exercise caution during the ongoing election campaigns, warning against empty promises and monetary inducements, as he addressed a rally in Embu County on Saturday.
Speaking to a crowd of local supporters, Gachagua stressed that while candidates may offer gifts and financial incentives, voters must prioritise their long-term interests when casting their ballots.
Gachagua’s warning comes as politicians intensify campaigns ahead of the general elections, with a flurry of promises and material offerings being made to win votes.
He emphasised that Mbeere North, historically marginalised in development projects, deserves genuine attention and sustainable development, not short-term favours or populist gestures designed merely to secure political support.
The former Deputy President reminded voters that accepting handouts does not guarantee progress and called for discernment, urging the electorate to distinguish between empty rhetoric and actionable plans.
Local leaders present at the rally echoed Gachagua’s sentiments, noting that voters have grown increasingly aware of political promises that rarely translate into tangible development.
The region has, over the years, faced challenges such as poor infrastructure, limited access to quality education, and inadequate healthcare services, which voters hope will be addressed by elected leaders.
By urging residents of Mbeere North to vote wisely, the former Deputy President aims to empower the community to demand accountability, ensuring that elected representatives deliver concrete benefits rather than temporary handouts.
