Police in Gitwamba, Kiambu County, have launched a manhunt for a man accused of stabbing his cousin to death after an argument during the Manchester United vs Chelsea game.
The victim, Stephen Njoroge, was reportedly stabbed on Saturday, September 20, by his cousin, James Mbugua. According to police, the suspect fled immediately after the attack, leaving family members in shock.
Relatives said the two had been watching the game together when tempers rose. Their uncle described them as close and without previous disputes.
“They were first cousins, always watching football together. We never expected something like this to happen,” he said.
Another relative suggested alcohol may have influenced the suspect’s actions.
“Alcohol can make someone act in ways they would never consider while sober. It can make a person lose control,” the family member noted.
The killing has left the Gitwamba community shaken. Residents said both cousins grew up together and were known to be friendly. The family is now struggling to cope with the sudden loss.
Police confirmed that investigations are ongoing and promised to track down the suspect. The body of Stephen Njoroge was moved to Kiambu Level 5 Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
