
High Court Advocate, Willis Otieno has expressed his concern the Directorate of criminal investigations confirmed the arrest of 6 police officers accused of selling Firearms to bandits.
In a post on Facebook, the Directorate of criminal investigations revealed that the suspects were arrested by detectives who had been trailing them.
The suspects were later identified as Constable Samson Muriithi Mutongu, who worked as a storeman at the same facility, Corporal Isaac Kipngetich, attached to the Turkana County Police Headquarters; Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Ekidor Lotira Charles, based in Turkana and Police Constable Ileli Cyrus Kisamwa, who served as an armourer at the Central Firearms Stores in the Industrial Area.
According to the Directorate of criminal investigations (DCIs), the breakthrough came when one of the suspects, Corporal Kipngetich was intercepted by detectives while he was in the process of receiving a consignment of one thousand rounds of ammunition allegedly supplied by Constables Ileli and Mutongu.
The alleged stock was believed to be destined for ASP Lotira. Further searches in the homes of another suspect, Constable Mutongu, led to the recovery of nineteen assorted magazines, firing pins, cleaning kits, and three spent cartridges.
After being taken to the Milimani Court, a judge allowed the police to detain the suspects in custody until tomorrow when another ruling is going to be made after they appear in Court.
