James Orengo is the current governor of Siaya county. He was elected in 2022 with ODM party ticket. Orengo is expected to run again in 2027 in an attemp to defend his seat. His deputy William Oduol might also feature on the ballot after they fell out shortly after the last election.
The most recent opinion poll done by Tiffa puts Oduol ahead of Orengo in the Siaya county gubernatorial race.
The political fued between Governor Orengo and William Oduol is expected to intensify as the next election draws near. However, it will be left for the voters to evaluate their performance and make their choices.
Here are some of the achievements of governor James Orengo since he assumed the office in 2022. His achievements range from various sectors such as education, health, transport and sports.
In health sector governor Orengo has initiated the construction of Urenga Sub County Hospital in East Ugenya Ward and Ukwala Sub County Hospital. His government has also refurbished and fully equipped the Siaya County Referral Hospital Emergency department.
Under his stewardship, the county government of Siaya has constructed Opata bridge that serves the community around Sigomere and Sidindi in Ugenya, upgrade the Ndori market ring road in East Asembo to Bitumen standard.
The county government of Siaya has also empowered agricultural sectors in different ways. The latest one was the distribution of 40 beehive to household in North Sakwa and South East Alego Ward.
Orengo has also constructed markets in Siaya including the Nyangweso market in Gem where small business people can now operate in comfortably.
Several schools have also been constructed and others renovated since Orengo took the mantle in 2022. Some of these schools include Komoro, Kanyaudo, Thim Ralak among others.
