A dark cloud has fallen over Gitwanba village in Kiambu County after a shocking tragedy during a football match viewing. What was meant to be a night of excitement and cheering turned deadly when two cousins clashed over a football game.
The cousins, James Mbugua and Stephen Njoroge, had gathered to watch the much-anticipated match between Manchester United and Chelsea. Like many football lovers across Kenya, they were passionately following the game. But sadly, their emotions took a tragic turn.
According to family members, the two had a heated argument over the match. In a shocking twist, Mbugua allegedly stabbed his cousin Njoroge during the quarrel. The injury was fatal, leaving the entire family and community in disbelief.
What has made the incident even more heartbreaking is that the cousins were known to be very close. Their uncle explained that they had never had any grudges or problems before. “They were first cousins, watching football together. This has completely broken our hearts; we never expected something like this to happen,” he said tearfully.
Another family member described Mbugua as a hardworking and jovial man who always loved peace. She suggested that alcohol may have influenced his actions, noting that drinking often leads to uncontrolled behavior. “Alcohol can be dangerous. It can make someone act in ways they would never consider while sober,” she added.
After the stabbing, Mbugua fled the scene, and police have since launched a manhunt to arrest him. Investigators are trying to piece together exactly what happened and why such a simple disagreement turned into a deadly crime.
The incident has left the village in shock, with many residents questioning how something as ordinary as a football game could lead to the loss of life.
