The family of Benedict Kabiru, who went missing in March, has been left devastated after the National Police Service (NPS) confirmed their worst fears on Thursday.
Authorities disclosed that Kabiru’s body was positively identified following weeks of forensic examinations, bringing to an end months of painful uncertainty.
Kabiru, a 32-year-old resident of Nairobi, was last seen leaving his workplace in March under unclear circumstances.
His disappearance triggered frantic searches, with relatives issuing public appeals and circulating his photos on social media in hopes of tracing his whereabouts.
Despite these efforts, little progress was made until police received leads that guided them to a remote location where human remains were discovered.
In a statement, the NPS expressed condolences to the grieving family while assuring them that investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding Kabiru’s death.
“We stand with the family during this difficult time and remain committed to pursuing justice,” the statement read.
Family members described Kabiru as a hardworking, compassionate young man whose absence has left an irreplaceable void.
“He had so many dreams, and we prayed every day for his safe return. It is painful to accept that he is gone,” a relative said, fighting back tears.
News of his death has sparked an outpouring of sympathy from friends, colleagues, and neighbours, many of whom gathered at the family home to console the bereaved.
Human rights advocates have also urged the police to expedite investigations, citing rising cases of disappearances in the country.
For Kabiru’s family, closure comes with deep sorrow, but they remain hopeful that the truth will eventually emerge. His burial arrangements are expected to be announced in the coming days.
